Mosimann's dining club in Belgravia
Mosimann'sBTNDC / Fine Dining

Mosimann's occupies a converted Scottish Presbyterian church on West Halkin Street, and the setting gives the private members' dining club a natural sense of theatre without demanding attention. Anton Mosimann OBE and his family have run the club for more than 30 years; on a night in Belgravia, that continuity is felt in the rooms, the pace and the unhurried confidence of the welcome. This is not grandeur for display. It is a place accustomed to important dinners and comfortable with leaving some of the atmosphere unsaid.

The history is considerable. Mosimann was the youngest ever Maitre Chef des Cuisines at The Dorchester, where he held two Michelin stars; he founded the club in 1988 and welcomed more than 1,000 members within months. A Royal Warrant from HRH The Prince of Wales has been held since 2000, and he cooked the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's wedding dinner at Buckingham Palace. Those achievements form the frame, but the kitchen's philosophy is what gives the meal its identity.

Cuisine naturelle means no oil, butter, cream or alcohol in the kitchen. Sauces are built on pure stocks, natural yoghurt and fromage blanc, with a stated passion for excellence running through the cooking. The effect is careful rather than showy: flavours are clean, technique remains visible and the room's quiet professionalism does much of the work. Loyd Grossman's observation that there was a before and after Mosimann feels grand, but the club's real pleasure is more immediate. It offers an evening of discretion, heritage and service that understands the luxury of not being hurried.
