BTNDC SCORE
40.5/50

KÖD means meat, and the restaurant makes no attempt to hide its intentions. The London dining room is dark, warm and handsome, with banquettes, candlelit tables and a bar that creates a natural pulse around the more formal meal. It feels distinctly Danish in its restraint: the design is considered, but not fussy, and the room leaves enough space for a table to enjoy itself. In the City, that gives KÖD a useful after-work ease without reducing the experience to a business-dinner formula.
The cooking is as direct as the name. Steaks arrive with a convincing sear and a properly juicy centre, and the menu gives diners enough choice across cuts and sizes without making the decision feel like an exam. Sides are important here, bringing creaminess, crunch and acidity around the richness of the beef. The strongest combination is simple: one good cut, two sides, a sharp sauce and a bottle chosen from the well-judged wine list. There are no unnecessary tricks, and the kitchen is usually better for that discipline.
Service is composed and friendly, with staff happy to explain the cuts and make sensible recommendations. The room can become quite close and lively later in the evening, and the price sits at the premium end of the City’s casual dining offer, but the experience has a clear logic. KÖD is not selling discovery. It is selling the pleasure of a meal that knows what it is. For a steakhouse, that kind of confidence is more valuable than novelty, particularly when the room and cooking are this dependable.
