BTNDC SCORE
41/50

Picture has always felt like a restaurant with a clear idea of what it wants to be. Tom, Alan and Colin met while working in Michelin-starred kitchens, then opened this Fitzrovia address in June 2013. That background matters, but the restaurant does not trade on it as a badge of honour. Instead, the experience is shaped by a more useful ambition: polished cooking with enough personality to feel like it belongs to the people behind it. The result is a modern British table with a point of view, rather than a collection of borrowed gestures.
The local connection is part of Picture’s strength. Close relationships with returning diners give the restaurant a sense of continuity, and the welcome feels rooted in the neighbourhood rather than imported from a grander address. The cooking has the same balance. Plates are considered and carefully made, but the pleasure is not buried beneath technique. There is room for seasonality, restraint and the occasional flash of individuality without the meal losing its clarity. It is the kind of cooking that rewards attention while remaining easy to enjoy.
Value has always been central to the ethos, which is unusually persuasive in a part of London where tasting menus can quickly become a serious commitment. A six-course seasonal menu at £45 makes the proposition unusually clear: ambition should not have to mean unnecessary ceremony or distance. Picture Marylebone followed in July 2016, evidence that the original idea had found a durable audience. Fitzrovia remains the more personal address, a considered restaurant whose polished plates and human scale make a strong case for returning.
