BTNDC SCORE
15/50

Casa Zilli begins with a story of family and adaptation. Nestled in the East Surrey hills, Casa Zilli is home to Aldo, Nicola and their children, Rocco and Twiggy. At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the family opened their home kitchen, first delivering fresh, home-cooked Italian food to local hospital workers and then developing a takeaway service. That origin gives the restaurant a sense of purpose before a menu is even considered: it is an act of care that grew into a public-facing food business.
The setting continues that instinct. Casa Zilli’s dining idea is closely tied to hospitality, family and the generosity implied by welcoming people into a home. The ambition is appealing because it is personal rather than corporate. Italian food is particularly well suited to that register, carrying the expectations of comfort, familiarity and a table that is meant to be shared. The story promises warmth, but the leaderboard verdict is careful to separate intention from delivery.
At 15, Casa Zilli is a well-intentioned Italian table whose ambitions are not yet matched by execution. That is a low score, but not an unkind judgement. It recognises the distance between a moving origin story and a restaurant experience that must still make every part of the meal work. The family’s commitment is the reason to take the proposition seriously; the cooking needs to catch up with it. Casa Zilli remains an honest, human project — one with a good idea at its centre, and plenty still to prove on the plate.
