Amazonico London arrives in Mayfair with an unusually clear sense of inheritance. The restaurant began in Madrid in 2010 under Sandro Silva and Marta Seco, and this Berkeley Square address was their first opening outside Spain. Its idea is not a narrow translation of one regional cuisine, but an expansive interpretation of the Amazon: a place where tropical references, Latin American cooking and a full evening of music and movement can occupy the same frame.
The room is the most immediate part of that proposition. Lázaro Rosa-Violán’s design uses lush greenery and natural materials to create a rainforest-inspired interior, with the bar and lounge extending the experience beyond the dining room. The food follows the same broad geography. The restaurant describes a menu moving from Peruvian sushi and raw seafood to carefully sourced grilled meats and fish, with Asian and Mediterranean communities informing the Amazonian starting point. Seasonal ingredients and a mixture of traditional and cutting-edge techniques give the concept a wide register, even if width is not the same as depth.
Live bands in the main restaurant and resident DJs in the bar make the social promise explicit. At 26, Amazonico is best read as a grand, high-volume night out whose atmosphere carries more conviction than its culinary detail. That is not a criticism of the ambition; it is a useful guide to the experience. Come for the lush staging, the sense of movement and the pleasure of being transported into a carefully built world. Those looking for quiet precision may find the room’s scale demanding, but diners who want theatre with their Latin American cooking will understand exactly what the restaurant is selling.
